Superheavy Assault Walker by mangozac Superheavy Assault Walker by mangozac
Epic does not even begin to describe the journey that has been this project. From such humble beginnings in early 2008, far before Resin Addict was even dreamed of, I embarked on my first scratchbuilding project. It was ambitious, for certain, but I'm the kind of person who jumps into the deep and and either sinks or swim. The sheer amount I learned along the way was just mind blowing and after two years of construction it was finally completed. The problem was that after such an epic modelling project I found myself burned out and since I didn’t play 40k any more I had no desire to actually build up one of my own!

It was over a year later that I decided I was ready to build up my own SAW kit to proudly display. But it has taken me almost another two years to assemble and finish painting the damn thing! Due to the size of it just making the base was a mission in itself.

Just like with the original scratchbuild, painting has been a massive educational adventure too. This was my first time using “advanced” modelling techniques such as airbrushing, clear coats, oil paints and using pigments for anything other than rust. I screwed up a lot along the way and the finished model still isn’t perfect, but it’s good enough that for now at least I’m happy to call it done!

You can see more pictures on my blog: [link]

I designed and scratchbuilt the master model for this kit and resin copies are now available for purchase from Chapterhouse Studios: [link]

Whoa! That is incredible. I think only you will think it is not perfect. We are usually our own worst critics. It is really an amazing achievement you've accomplished here. Everything is spot on. The paint job is awesome as well.

Cheers mate! Indeed we are all our own worst critics, but that's fine so long as it doesn't prevent your enjoyment of the hobby. There is a point at which it's more important just to get a project done rather than keep obsessing over every little detail that isn't 100% perfect.

My time since has been spent primarily on scratchbuilding and mastering for production projects, but I'm hoping to get back into some more kit build ups in the coming months.

I'm learning NOTHING will ever be 100% perfect. So I don't sweat it as much. I really enjoy the hobby so much more now that I don't obsess over stuff. I embrace the imperfections. ;)

If I had the money I'd buy this. I'd build it, paint it, admire it for a bit.

Then I'll take it to my GW and challenge anyone to take it on. :|

Granted, in this fantasy world where I'd have the money, I'd also have two Riptides flanking it. In any case, this is amazing.

Knowing my luck, the staff will take one look, walk into the backroom and come back with a Warhound Titan and plop it down on the table.

And then the nearby by-standing customer will run to his car to get his Chaos Reaver Titan.

Later on someone walks in on the entire floor being covered three armies, titans, and a superheavy walker going at from one side of the room to the over....then backs away slowly.

I'm a 'nid player - i gave up all hope for warhammer during 5th ed. It just irks me that the Tau (as well as several other factions) who are so ripe for elaboration get sidelined by damned cheesemarines all the time.

Thanks! The design of the hull/torso was sketched by a friend of mine who is an awesome graphic artist, based off an original basic shape I had sketched. Without his input it wouldn't have turned out even remotely this good!

Unfortunately GW don't hire talented designers any more - have you seen the new Dark Angels vehicles? A blind monkey could have created something better!

Working for Forge World on the other hand - now that would be cool ;)

Thanks!
